Building and painting the new hives for our Bees – بناء وتحضير القفران للمناحل

Had the chance this weekend to build the new hives for our Bees. As you know I opted for Langstroth hive standard because it’s the right choice 🙂 after all we use it in Lebanon.

So I ordered the DiY kits and it was a pleasure building and painting the hives.

The parts of the hive are like a Lego toy, a delight to build.

Because screws hold much better than nails, i can only recommend it. 35 mm, 3 each side.

The are many way to make a handle for the hives and suppers, I prefer these bars because they are stable big enough for working with gloves.

Don't spare on wood glue, it adds a lot of stability to the hive and closes any irregularities.

Painting the Hives is a science on it’s own, for our bees I only use a natural Leinseed oil base to protect the wood and after that comes an ecological paint on it.

Giving the hive a good natural lein oil base is the best alternative.

Varroa floors are very important because we do not want to treat the bees with chemicals. I built the Varroa floors with decent stainless steel mesh and varroa tray for early detection and for ventilating  the hives in summer.

the Stainless steel mesh lets the mites fall diorectly into the plate for early detection of Varroatosis
